Falling in love with Oliver Mascarpone

We’ve had three mornings of snow here on Long Island and Ollie M has been with us for those three days.  He must think he’s in Vermont or Colorado with all the snowfall he’s seen out the window, or SWINDOW, as we call it in my house. He happens to live about an hour away, in New York City, in a one-bedroom apartment with my daughter.  This is his first real adventure away from home. We are kitten-sitting Oliver while my daughter is in Florida.

Mister, my two-year-old cat, and Ollie, have met up once before and it was tense. There was a lot of wrestling and not a lot of down time, and I was anticipating a tense few days.  The first night was tough, separating them, as Ollie would jump Mister to the ground, and Mister would squeal, and then Mister would be on the attack. Do I separate them or try to create a peaceful, harmonious environment for my boys, or boyzinis, as we call them?

Well three days in, and they have discovered SWINDOW time together.  Despite the frigid air, I seem to be held hostage into opening the window way high, which provides lots of entertainment for these two to watch the snow fall, hear the birds of March, and take in the breeze.  Mister has always enjoyed a good breeze.  Summer days are spent with him by the front swindow, watching, breathing in and exhaling the breeze.  All I have to say is Mister, “Want SWINDOW?” in a high-pitched squeal, and he comes running.  Now Ollie joins Mister at the swindow, and they have become swindow buddies.  They take breakfast at the same time, and dinner.  Each knows which station is theirs. They’re even napping right now in the same room.  Some peace has been achieved.

I can’t help but love Ollie, as I love Mister.  Ollie is a massive purrer, unlike Mister, who lives life without purring!  But more importantly, Ollie’s the one who helped my daughter through a difficult break-up.  She rescued him from a shelter, and he rescued her from a lonely moment in her life.  Hats off to you, Oliver Mascarpone!
