A Satisfying Day
Today I visited with my congressperson, in district, to advocate for more funding and support for
education. I am the co-director of our
local writing project site; I went with the director who is a dear friend and
colleague. We talked with our
congressperson about our Writing Project work and the state of affairs in Washington, and it
was a very productive meeting.
Tonight I was invited over to a
neighbor/friend’s house to write postcards to representatives in
Congress. This gathering just happened to be on the same day as my earlier personal visit. My friend served wine, provided postcards and
pens, and hosted such interesting women. We
talked while we wrote and wrote while we talked, and it felt good to share
community.
It certainly was a satisfying
political day. Many of these days since
the last election have been difficult and challenging, to say the least. Our country is so divided. The discourse is so uncivil. I vacillate between the desire to stay
vigilant and active, with the need for peace and to shut off the noise. But today was important, and I feel
recharged.
"But today was important..." indeed!

ReplyDeleteSo proud of you and honored to be your friend and LIWP colleague! :)
