Savoring the Road - Part 2
My overnight ‘vacation’ trip
to visit my friend Sheree was just what the doctor ordered, as they say. We had so much fun. Last night we had a
delicious dinner and wine. We talked for
hours on end. I had my own hotel room which was lovely. I went to bed after midnight and set my alarm
for 9:00 AM, which was wishful thinking. I awoke at 6:30 AM, but I’ll take 6
hours straight over getting up in the middle of the night, any time. So I got coffee and had a yogurt, and enjoyed
my morning alone time. And then I went
to the gym, which was enormous, with tons of state of the art machines and
hardly anyone there. I did 2 miles on
the ellyptical and 2 miles on the treadmill.
I also did leg and arm machines.
I luxuriated in the sheer length of time I had - to just be in the gym,
and to just be.
Then Sheree met me, and we
had a lovely brunch in a nearby quaint town.
We talked about a lot of life stuff, but also a lot of political
stuff. We shopped in a couple of artsy
stores and each found a necklace that we loved.
So we bought each other a really pretty necklace.
I’m on the bus home now. It’s
still sunny as it approaches dusk, and I’m content. I needed a getaway from my everyday
life. I needed to do something lively, something
different, and my time with Sheree was just that. It’s such a gift to spend
time with an old and special friend.
What a lovely respite from the day to day. I'm so glad you had such a great time. Great job on the workout, too! :)
