Talking Toothpaste
“Think about a person that
you’re grateful to have in your life,” said Mike the yoga instructor this
morning.
For some reason, today my
husband’s image popped into my mind.
Who’s the person who fixes all those little things in life that I find
too challenging or that I forget about?
Take the toothpaste tube. So it’s
been down to its last squeeze for quite some time now and I keep making a
mental note to go down to the basement to get a new tube. I know we have several down there. But instead I struggle to wrestle out yet
another tiny bit, and exit forgetting to replace it. My husband miraculously winds up that tube,
so that it’s now about 3 inches and still usable with ease, and it’s cleaner
that it was, with no previous paste hovering around it.
What would I do without
him? And of course, it’s not just
toothpaste. If a smoke alarm or carbon
monoxide alarm should make that annoying sound that indicates it needs to be
changed, who do you think changes them? Of
course don’t let me forget about the refrigerator water filter that requires frequent
replacing, and he has to get down on all fours to maneuver it in under the
refrigerator.
Day 18 and I’m talking
toothpaste. I hope tomorrow I discover a
less mundane topic to explore.
I don't think you're writing about toothpaste. I think you're writing about love. Your husband loves you through acts of service. Shouldn't we all be so lucky!?!
ReplyDeleteI love the toothpaste-kind of slices. They capture the extra- in the ordinary.
