Those few extra pounds
Why is it that each new
decade (sometimes just a new year) brings with it new pounds that are getting
harder and harder to shed? What worked
last year, isn’t working now. And I’m
exercising more than usual – walking, yoga, the elliptical, doing something
different many days of the week.
My daughter insists that my
metabolism needs a jumpstart - that I should be eating earlier in the day. I recently heard Dr. Oz say that you should
have the bulk of your food intake by 3:00 P.M. That is exactly the point in my
day that I begin to feel hungry, and the hunger only gets stronger as the day
goes on. I tend not to have anything to eat except coffee until around 12
o’clock, and then I’m satisfied with just an apple and a banana. Three o’clock comes, and I’m starving. I’ll usually try to eat some carrots, celery,
humus, maybe another banana, and then I eat a pretty good dinner.
I wouldn’t care so much about
these few new pounds but all the pants I wore in the fall are just a little too
tight around my belly. Perhaps it is
just the winter. (Another thing to blame
on the winter.) There’s no gardening,
less walking around, and more indoor moments. But with spring on the horizon,
and having started eating earlier in the morning, I plan on defeating those
pounds.
The contrast between what you do now - walking, yoga, the elliptical- and what you do when it's not winter - gardening and spending time outdoors - make it seem like spring might be the cure.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about this exact thing today. I worry that those few extra pounds will be harder and harder to take off with every passing year.
ReplyDeleteBTW: I stave off afternoon cravings with green smoothies. Happy to share some recipes if you're interested.
I know the feeling! Good luck on shedding those pesky pounds!
