Off to the Analog Party

Today I’m off to join Leigh Anne and company at the Analog Party. I’ve gathered some items to share with you, my writing buddies.

I’ve gathered a bunch of playbills to share since I live close to NYC and try to get to the theatre when I can. We could talk about plays we’ve read, seen and loved. I tend to mostly go to dramas, but I did love “Maybe Happy Ending” and “Ragtime.”
I’m bringing my favorite book Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf. I’ve reread it many times and just love it. We could read excerpts and talk about your favorite books.  Last June I attended a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Mrs. Dalloway. It was at the 92nd Street Y in New York City on a Saturday in the middle of June. They held a marathon reading of Mrs. Dalloway in its entirety. I brought my book with me to follow along, although the auditorium was pretty dark. People could come and go throughout the day. I was in my glory with fellow Dalloway lovers.

I’m bringing a bunch of poems from poets.org. I’m printing them out for us before I leave. We can use the poems as prompts if we decide to write together. We often use those poems as prompts in my Writing Group. As an aside, you can sign up for poem-a-day on poets.org where you receive a poem every day in your inbox for free.  You can also sign up for Poetry and the Creative Mind Benefit Reading on April 28th at 7:30 where writers and actors read aloud their favorite poems on Zoom. But for our gathering, we’ll have a few special printed poems.

I’m bringing a writing journal, and I’ll bring a few extra journals that have never been written in, because the truth is, I only write on computer. I’ll have to manage with paper and pen. Do you prefer writing on computer or paper?
I am packing a few exercise mats so we could maybe do some yoga together or at least stretch and meditate. I have some weights downstairs, but they might be too heavy to bring.

Lastly, I’ll try to find a portable record player so we can play Glenda’s vinyl Bruce Springsteen “Born in the USA” record that she is bringing. I love Bruce Springsteen! I need to write a post devoted to him and how much I love his music and his concerts. He is touring again, and I have tickets to see him in May – twice!!

So I’m thinking we’re going to have a great party sans electronics and social media. Thank you, Leigh Anne, for again inviting us all to your fun parties.

  1. Yay! I am so glad you come to the party. It is always fun to see what people bring, and it says so much about them. Music, poetry, books, plays, sounds like a great time! If only we could really do this!

  2. I joined the analog party today, too! I'm sure I will enjoy looking through your play bills. I have never been to NYC, but I would love to go. The poetry will be fun for me, too. I'm not too flexible, so the yoga will be helpful. I do enjoy yoga and pilates, but I'm always the worst in the class.

  4. These are some wonderful contributions for our party! Thank you for bringing some printed poems to read and write from. I will especially enjoy that. And I'll bring my yoga mat too! We might need some movement and exercise after all.

  6. Heidi, wow, this is great. I just realized I have not been here at all this month. It was fun to read about all the great activities you are involved in. Yoga is a great addition, and discussing plays, novels and poetry--what a worthy endeavor! I don't get enough of that.
