Traveling with my Daughters

On these still blustery March days, it’s fun to relive my recent trip with my two daughters when we traveled to the 80-degree warmth and sun of Aruba last month.  It’s paradise there – the blue-green water, the pristine white sand and the noticeable lack of waves in this magical ocean. You can wade out as far as the eye can see, so people power walk in the water, float around on rafts, do some stand up paddle boarding, and just hang around and chat.  The palm trees, the palapas, the stronger than New York sun all beckon you into this storybook existence. When you are there, there is no other reality.

We swam daily, did yoga by the beach, and walked and ran, along the shoreline and in the town. We had healthy breakfasts, discovering the most delicious acai bowls right nearby. The acai bowl would contain granola with the freshest pineapple, strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, cantaloupe, and bananas; coconut shavings would be applied on top.  It was a heavenly repast. We also indulged in a fancy Sunday brunch overlooking the water. We had several sumptuous dinners, always outside.  The sunsets over the beach were magnificent – each sunset outdoing the sunset of the day before! One night we dined right on the beach - inches from the water. Sandals were checked at the “door.” We watched the most glorious sunset unfolding, with our feet in the sand. We sipped wine and made toasts and laughed and knew that we were truly happy in that moment.

Traveling with my grown daughters is such a treat.  The warmth of the sun and the love and laughter of my daughters makes for a uniquely special experience.

  1. I am looking up flights to Aruba right now! You had me at wave-less waters to wade out in. Sure,I'd take the sunsets and wine, too, all with my feet in the sand. You paint such pictures!

  3. This sounds absolutely amazing and memorable! I love days with my mom and sister. We've never done a trip like that but sometimes we get into the city and see show and have brunch and that feels so decadent and fun to me!
