Sofa Shopping in New York City

Today I rode the railroad into New York City. I used to go in a whole lot, before the pandemic. The purpose of this visit was to go sofa shopping with my younger daughter who is moving into her own apartment after living with a roommate.

We met near Lincoln Center and had brunch outdoors at one of my favorite NY restaurants. Today was near 60 degrees, a far cry from the frost of a few days ago. It was the perfect day to walk the town and dine outside. We both had the quinoa and kale salad, which was amazing, and much better than I remember. It had sundried cranberries, ricotta salata, roasted almonds and Dijon vinaigrette. We chatted about her job, her new boyfriend, and the state of the world.

We spent a lot of time in one furniture store. The surprising part was that they had so many sofas in stock and ready for an early delivery. We had heard the stories about the supply shortage and people who were waiting months for their sofas to arrive. She debated over color and whether to get a sectional or a regular sofa. In the end, she chose a big comfy beige regular sofa, and we added the companion love seat.

After, we meandered around the city a bit, and stopped in a few stores. Then I walked back to Penn Station myself, clocking in a total of 13,000 steps and 6 miles. It was a productive visit.

  1. So glad you were able to be in the city on such a lovely day and that your daughter was able to find the sofa she wants and can get soon. Were you at Raymor and Flanagan's, which is near Lincoln Center? It was a great day for walking around.
