Sand, Sun and Sea - and a Sunset

Today was just a lovely day, filled with sand, sun and sea. Day 3 in Aruba. I started the day with a walk with my daughter through a path where the ocean is on one side, and hotels on the other. We walked for four miles before meeting the others for brunch at Scott’s Brats, an outdoor eating place that basically cooks up bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches on a grill in the open air. We added acai bowls from Eduardo’s Beach Shack nearby and ate outside. It’s a yummy start to the day.

We spent most of the day at our palapa, swimming in the ocean which felt much like swimming in a pool.  Since it has been 84 degrees each day that we’ve been here with such a strong sun, the ocean water is a comfortable temperature and so refreshing. Under the palapa, I tried to get some reading done; other days I’ve written my blog posts there.

Tonight’s sunset was exquisite! People gathered at the shore, sitting on chairs, taking pictures, some strolling by the water, and some still swimming in the ocean. It felt like a magical event was about to unfold. We watched for an hour as the sun became one ball of gleaming yellow light and then sunk down. Slowly different hues of yellow and pink appeared, turning to a reddish orange with purple hovering above. Pictures could not adequately capture the actual beauty of this magnificent unfolding scene. Nor do my words. What’s amazing is that this show goes on every night here. Here’s to nature’s magic.
