4 - 4- 4 Format

Playing with the 4 – 4 – 4 format: 4 things I see within 4 feet, but not following the 4-minute time rule, since my cell phone is shut off and I have time on my hands.

I am on an airplane. One of the things too close to me, closer than 4 feet, more like 1 foot, is the seatback of the person in front of me. It was just pushed back right at me. It seems like whenever we’re on a plane, someone puts their seat back right in front of my husband who is much taller and bigger than I am. This was supposed to be his seat, but we switched and here I am with this slight annoyance. Why do people think it’s okay to just push back, like there’s no one behind them? Do I now push back? No, because I know it’s invasive and annoying with so little room as it is. It looks to me like 95% of seats are not pushed back. I really don’t mean to complain; I’m lucky to be on a plane.

What else do I view within 4 feet of me? The flight attendant is coming down the aisle with the tray filled with drinks. Snacks are to follow. I often just drink water much of the day, after my morning coffee input, but today I think I’ll have ginger ale.

Close by is my husband and I can see his bandaged knee. He took a run this morning and fell on concrete at the end of his run. His knee got pretty bloodied as did his elbow and his hands. We spent awhile cleaning his wounds at the hotel.  We were almost too late catching this plane. Hopefully it’s just surface wounds and no sprain anywhere.

Looking out the window I can see an exquisite blue sky with a swirl of white clouds. It is a sunny afternoon flight and I’m happy to have sunshine come in through the open shade. On a lot of flights it’s all dark and I’m the only one with an overhead light on. Not today. Going on trips, flying to new places is exhilarating to me. I love how travel just opens possibilities and perspectives, gets you to see new sights, and awakens your senses.
