Dear Baby Noah
Here is a letter I wrote to my new grandson before he was born:
Dear Baby Noah,
We await you. We await your newness, your fresh start, your soft, fresh, newborn skin. What will you look like? Do you have hair, little one? Will you have an easy entrance? How will you adjust to this new world?
You have a family that will love you unconditionally. We can promise you that. We can promise you smiles and kisses. We will support you – hold you up, cuddle your newborn-ness. We can’t wait to hold you.
You are our first – first child, first grandchild, first boy.
I’m not sure this world you’re entering is in perfect shape for you. But we will be your beacon of light, giving and receiving joy, celebrating your most wondrous birth.
And today’s letter, with Noah turning 2 months old:
Dear Baby Noah,
Oh my goodness – we are overcome by your cuteness.
You are amazing. Your cheeks, your eyes, your perfectly formed features
Your little hands; I am overcome.
I hold you, I feed you, I glance into your still blue eyes,
I know that I am holding a gift from the universe.
Strolling you down the streets of your world,
Passing by parks and trees
We hear the birds singing,
As spring slowly arrives.
Welcome to this world, Noah
May it be a place of beauty, of joy, and of peace.
Well, this is SO lovely! I like seeing the pre-birth letter paired with the two month letter. You set down all that grandparent delight and hope. I especially love how your prose swings back and forth from you’re so cute, those fingers have me overcome! And contemplating the world and the universe. That IS what babies do to us!
