I love those mountains!
Driving home on the Taconic Parkway from our weekend getaway in Vermont, I am sad to leave the mountains. I love Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and all places mountain. I feel like I’m more at home in those mountains. Something in my soul, my body, feels different. I feel lighter, calm.
Slowly saying goodbye to the mountains as they get smaller in the distance, I ponder the reasons why we live where we live, which is on Long Island. These northeast winters are generally too cold, too icy, too dark early. And a few hours north make a big difference and is a major reason why we don’t’ have a house up near those mountains.
What I do like about where I live is that it is near Manhattan, and I love the energy of the city, and seeing plays and walking everywhere. My two daughters (and a newborn grandson!) currently live in the city, so I am there a lot. We are also twenty-five minutes from the beach and a boardwalk so that is a big plus.
Until my next mountain trip, I’ll just try to hold on to a Vermont state of mind.
