I Love...
I love…
Seeing Noah, my new first grandchild, smile for the first time! Seeing his eyes connect with mine, and the upward turn of his lips in response to my smile, is such a warm, human, shared moment.
Having Mister jump upon my bed and snuggle when I’ve slept late or am sick. He finds his place curling up alongside my legs and looks at me with his soulful green eyes.
Applauding vincas as their pink and magenta flowers explode all over my spring and summer garden. (I can’t wait!) Last summer’s vincas were bursting with exquisite color. What a joy it is to plant and welcome these magnificent flowers and watch them flourish. I also love the dipladenias and the verbenas that looked so pretty on my teak cart.
Holding on to the memory of our family trip to Greece last summer when we walked the Acropolis and the Ancient Agora Marketplace. We cruised to Santorini, Rhodes, Patmos, Crete, and Mykonos and were gasping at the beauty and the history of this amazing country. My daughters brought their boyfriends, and soon after, one became a husband and the other a fiancé. We often talk about how much we loved sharing that trip together.
Walking and hiking around Lake Placid, NY and Stowe, Vermont. These two places offer up such beauty and serenity. When I am in and around those mountains, I feel like I am truly home.
Writing when you really capture what it is that you set out to say. I love Anne Lamott’s Bird by Bird, my favorite book on writing. I loved teaching pre-service graduate students ready to become English and Social Studies teachers. The course was called “Writing and Thinking in the Secondary Schools,” and it was a delight to teach. I taught it for six semesters.
Welcoming Spring. After a freezing cold winter in New York, seeing crocuses blooming is uplifting. Daffodils and hyacinth are close behind. We had a few brilliantly sunny 60-degree days last week, and I am ready.

Thanks to Kim D. for her “I Love” post that inspired me. I had started this as a 5-4-3-2-1 post (5 things that make you happy or smile) and then just began writing about the things that make me happy.
What a wonderful list! As a read each moment of love, I thought of my own on getting married, of our Christmas trip to London, of crocuses rising from the ground. Thank you for filling the morning with joy!
ReplyDeleteThe first smile of the first grandchild is super special. :) It's great to have many things to include on the "I love..." list.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great format that showcases the diverse loves of your life with that little man at the top of your list!
ReplyDeleteI love how you began with your grandson's smile, but there is so much to smile about in your post. This is a perfect example of what Kelly Gallagher says about writing being generative--it produces other writing. The idea you began with created wonderful things to share.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun slice! Thinking (and writing) about all the things you love brings a sense of joy and peace. I love this one the most- "Writing when you really capture what it is that you set out to say." When this happens, it's like hitting the jackpot!!
