Escape Artist!
Return of the Landscapers and Mister’s Great Escape
It had been a rough morning with the landscapers making their debut in the neighborhood at 8 AM this morning. Extremely intense mowing machines and leaf blowers blasting for a full hour made us all unsettled. Mister perched himself on top of the staircase. It is one of the few downsides of spring – the constant noise from landscapers. (That, and the return of bugs.)
When they were all done and we were back to normal, I noticed our newspapers lying on the top stoop. I glanced around for Mister who was nowhere in sight. I hadn’t seen him for a good half hour at this point. I opened the front door, and Mister, who seemingly came out of nowhere, in a split second made his way out the door and onto the front yard.
Mister!!!! I shout. Mister!!! I’m in pajama pants and slippers. I could be outside for a while, if previous escapes are any indication, so I had to find some clothes. Now he is on his own outside while I dress for the great escape.
Visions of scary scenes race through my mind as I rush to put on socks and sneakers. We don’t have the apple tag on his new collar! What if he darts into the street?!
Well, it turns out he ran into the backyard, enjoyed a few whiffs of freedom and fresh air, and then when I opened the back door, he ran right in. Success!
Mister, whose exploits I have chronicled in blog posts over the years, has a storied past. He once ran away for 2 weeks and 2 days, and I’m not sure we ever fully recovered. And that is why every time he escapes, we panic.
Safe at home.
OH MISTER! I am so glad he is safe at home. We are very paranoid about our cats getting out, though most of them seem to have zero interest in ever experiencing the great outdoors again.
