Mister demands a walk!

I was ready to go out, run a bunch of errands, get out there before the traffic, but Mister would have none of it.

He meowed and meowed and wouldn’t remit. “I’ll take you out when I get back,” I said to him out loud. “Is that okay?”

Again, the meow and meow and meow.

“Okay, we’ll go now.”

Mister goes down the stairs and starts moving his paws back and forth on a step to the downstairs, as he often does for the morning wet food or the evening treat.  Excitement builds for Mister.

We have had our backyard filled to the brim with snow this winter. There was a period of about a month where you could not see the grass. The last day or two has melted away all the snow, and it is gloriously sunny! Mister knows; he is no slouch. He knows his time to go outside has returned. And so after watching squirrels and a blue jay and a cardinal from an open window much of the morning, he is ready for the real deal. And outside we went. He’s on a leash because he ran away for two weeks and two days when he was a young cat. And they were a really sad two weeks and two days for us. So since then, he only goes out on a leash.

While not all his beloved bushes have returned in full bloom yet, he sort of munches on the grass and goes to the spot of a bush he remembers and stays around there for a while.

Mister has always loved the outdoors. My vet says it’s like cocaine for him. I think of that when I’m out there with him.  It’s a peak moment for Mister, so why not stop whatever we’re doing to give in to his love of nature. What could be better - for him and for me?

  1. Very sweet post. I have three demanding animals myself. It's 80 degrees in StL today, and one of my pups hasn't left the sun/back patio furniture. They miss the nice weather as much as I do.
