Twas the night before spring

Twas the night before spring…

And we have endured the coldest, snowiest winter ever in New York! I can’t take it anymore. I finally went for a walk today, which was the best thing I could do, being in a funk as I was, but it was – what did I expect - freezing. The phone said 42 degrees, feels like 34, but I’m telling you it felt like 20. My hands were frozen through my gloves.

How are you today?” asked my dog-walking neighbor.

“It’s freezing!” I declared, angry.

“It’s not that cold,” he said as he talked to another guy who was wearing shorts(!).

“I feel freer in shorts,” the new man talking to my neighbor who I didn’t know, said.

I continued on my walk. Of course it’s all relative. A few weeks ago it was near zero degrees for a long stretch.

                                                  First snow from December

So how do I change my mood, get out of this winter malaise?

Write about it? No. I did not want to write a post about the weather.  I was determined not to write a post about the weather. But there you have it – my post about the weather.

  1. I agree - it's been a long and dreary winter; and I normally love winter! How funny that your neighbor's friend was wearing shorts. To each his own, I guess.

  2. That man in shorts reminds me of my boy students who wore shorts all winter long. It becomes their very own badge of honor. I've had a post or two about the weather this year and a post this week about our very stormy day that ended up being a day off school (much to the disappointment of my daughter and me and my niece and sister-in-law visiting during their spring break). We had looked forward to a morning without my daughter's three boys! I hope your snowy weather disappears soon and stays gone!
